Outlander

Outlander
Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another...
In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon—when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an "outlander"—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
Swoon....Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is the first in her "Outlander" series that follows the lives of a married couple throughout major events in history.. Now, these books are not for the faint at heart. Each of the bad boys in this series are think enough to rival a phone book, around 600 pages each. However- It is totally worth it. This is genre fiction like no other it fits into pretty much every category you can think of- fantasy, romance, drama, action, historical.. There is something for everyone in this book. Hell, in this series- mostly..What I have found from trying to force these onto anyone and everyone I know is that it is either something you completely love, or totally hate. Having obsessively read every page in the series, I am a lover of all things Outlandish.
It is a pretty simple plot line.. Wife and husband go on vacation, wife falls into a time warp and is jettisoned back 200 years, where she meets husband's dastardly relative and must marry another man to save her own skin, then falls in love with said man (Jaime Fraiser.. <3) , defeating evil and making history along the way.. Well, maybe not so simple after all..  Do it.. you know you want to read it... What isn't to love about strapping men running around in kilts?

Slave

Slave (The Cat Star Chronicles)He may be the last of a species whose sexual talents were the envy of the galaxy.
Cat is an enslaved warrior from a race with a feline gene that gives him awesome beauty, fearsome strength, and sensuality and sexual prowess unmatched by any other males in the universe. Even filthy, chained, and beaten, he gives off an aura of power and virility and his feline gene gives him a special aura.
Jacinth is an intergalactic trader on a rescue mission and she needs a man she can trust with her life.
She has spent years pursuing her kidnapped sister from planet to planet. Now her quest leads her to a place where all the women are slaves. "Jack" needs a slave of her own-one who can masquerade as her master.
Enmeshed in a tangle of deception, lust, and love, they must elude a race of violent killers and together forge a bond stronger than any chains.

Slave (The Cat Star Chronicles) by Cheryl Brooks, the first in the Cat Star Chronicles, has to be one of the most interesting romance novels I have ever read. Now, I still haven't decided if that is a good, or a bad thing. Jacinth is on a mission to save her sister. In order to do so she needs to by a slave to allow her to pose as his slave.. Still following? Jacinth finds Cat. He instantly forms a bond to her and decides to stay with her forever. Now, sweet as that may sound, it is a bit creepy to me. Also creepy? The description of his.. well, his member.. It is described over, and over and over and I am still a bit confused. Maybe because it just sounds gross to me. Also, he has magical orgasm inducing fluids that are emitted from his.. member.. Now, while this is an interesting concept, it also makes me a little sad I don't have a Cat of my own. Straddled with self-loathing and the self esteem of a paper bag, Jacinth and Cat set off to find her sister. The sister Jacinth is sure will steal the heart of her beloved Cat. On and on and on she goes about how much better her sister is. It made me want to punch her; that and her penchant for using "old time" phrases and references- things like scumbag and ET. REALLY? No. Sorry.  This story is set off by the main setting, the planet where women are slaves, chained to their men. Women and men on this planet openly have sex any and everywhere. At dinner, on the dance floor. Hey, getting a little unruly? Why don't I service you in the town square? A very interesting culture to say the least, not to mention that the men wear pants that resemble chaps- with nothing underneath, to allow the women easy access to their... members.
Overall, I didn't hate it. It isn't something I would mind reading the other books in the series, but I am not sure I would buy them. Maybe if someone lent them to me I could make the time.

Prelude to a Scandal

Prelude to a Scandal (Hqn)Marriage is not the end of desire...
Lady Justine is willing to trade her good name, her reputation and her place in London’s gossip-hungry ton to secure her father’s release from prison. But when the notorious Duke of Bradford counters her offer with a proposal of marriage, the stakes grow higher still. For while the smoldering lord is famous for his conquests, the man is oblivious to both her devotion and her charms. And Justine is soon afraid she has wagered all for naught…
Are you ready to be scandalized?

Prelude to a Scandal (Hqn) Written by Delilah Marvelle. This is the first book in her Scandal series, due to be released 1/1/11. Justine is an innocent, in love with a dreadful rake, who she needs to marry to save her father. Sound familiar? While the plot is an old favorite the twists are new and quite inventive. The Duke of Bradford has an issue though.. a compulsion, if you will. He is a sex addict. Something I really haven't seen before in any romance novel I have read. I have to say this novel has more masturbation and thoughts of it inside than some erotica. While not graphic, it is clear enough what is going on.  I kept waiting for the major plot twist, the giant act that throws all the love they have been working for to shambles... And it never came. I am glad I didn't hold my breath. The apex leaves some to be desired. Although I am glad they do not turn Bradford into a villian. That is really what I was expecting, that he should do something stupid driven by his compulsion, something the heroine would eventually forgive him for- which i cannot abide. Gag. Thankfully, that never came about. The sex is ok, scenes are few and far apart. The thoughts of sex are much more prevalent.  This one is a little too cutesy for my taste. Not a bad read, but not something I would read over and over again.

A few shorts..

The Bite of SilenceMake Mine Midnight

Going All InThe Bite of SilenceMake Mine Midnight, and Going All In are recent free shorts available for Kindle. Each on is very graphic and very short. Which is why they are being lumped into one review.
The Bite of Silence (Mary Hughes) Is kind of a spin off from her Bite Love series. In short- hunky vampire has to help heroine save NYC from vampires going wild. Along the way there is gratuitous sex. The sex is well played, although at times hard to imagine physically possible. And to be honest, I am not sure I would want to have  fangs used to suck blood out of my nethers. Sorry, but find somewhere that isn't so.... delicate. No fang play around my vag or into my boob,  There are dirty words and descriptions, the acts themselves aren't that dirty in themselves however..
Make Mine Midnight (AnnMarie McKenna) and Going All In (Jess Dee) are of the Ménage sort. These are different from the ones I have read before, mainly because the men sharing the women are friends- not brothers. Not that it makes it any less weird to me. Another difference is the.. well the anal sex. What's weird about anal in a menage, you may ask?? Well, what is different is that the anal in these both m/f and m/m. There isnt just anal, there is full on man loving with a woman in the middle. Girl sucks boy off, boy sucks boy off.  If you can't stomach that, you shouldn't read these. Otherwise, the sex is hot. The characters are horrible, but really? With this length, the main reason to read it is for the sex. Deal with it.

What I would like to know, honestly.. Is does this really happen? Are there men out there who share one women between several of them? Brothers or friends? It really seems like it wouldn't be possible.. But who knows...

The Conqueror

The Conqueror"Like a pagan god, Rolfe the Relentless rode into Castle Aelfgar to claim it as his prize—and Lady Alice as his bride.  Lauded for his bravery in France, in England he was the hated enemy.  Once ensconced in his new domain, Rolfe became determined to tame the Saxon beauty Ceidre, Alice's illegitimate sister, whose spirit and sensuality make him risk treason to have her—not Lady Alice—in his bed...

Mysterious and seductive, she was no lady but a spy for the rebel cause of her noble half brothers.  Refusing to bow to this arrogant warrior who ignited her forbidden passion, Ceidre was swept into a dangerous liaison tied to the fate of England and kings.  Yet with his kisses on her lips, his skillful hands on her body, she would have to struggle not to surrender to... The Conqueror."

The Conqueror by Brenda Joyce is the first in her de Warrene Dynasty  series- one of my favorites. This one is a little more.. touchy.. than the others. This novel, first published in '96 is a far cry from the most recent additions to her story. Rolfe is a relation to Edward de Warrenne who eventually marries Mary O'Neill, thus bringing together the two families centered in the series. Rolfe is a warrior, through and though. The story is set 1069, quite a distance from the Regency and Victorian settings of the others. Rolfe wins Aelfgar and it's Lady after his victories in France. Heading to his new castle he rides into a village being punished for treason, basically, being destroyed. A woman stands up to him, then fearing his wrath attempts to flee. Rolfe, meet Ceidre. Ceidre, Rolfe. Rolfe chases her down and seriously considers raping her, until he mistakenly assumes  she is the Lady Alice, his betrothed. Leaving her unscathed he takes her back to Aelfgar only to find she isn't in fact his betrothed, but her illegitimate sister. His betrothed is a horrible wretch of a woman, jealous of Ceidre and determined to make her life miserable. In fact, we learn that she is just a masochistic little bitch. What follows is a painful dance around and around. Rolfe wants Ceidre. Ceidre wants Rolfe, but denies it due to allegiances to her brothers- enemies of the crown. Rolfe marries Alice to keep a hold of Aelfgar, all the while detesting the little beast of a woman. His desire for Ceidre is apparent to everyone, including the Lady Alice. From here it is bound to get weird. Rolfe falls for Ceidre, Ceidre for Rolfe. Ceidre constantly goes behind his back to try and help her brothers which in turn hurts Rolfe. In the end, you get the HEA. It just takes a while, a very, very long while. In the meantime there is war, blood and guts, attempted murder and some steamy sex-although at times the sex is painful to read... Also a good phrase to wiki would be .Droit de seigneur...Quite interesting
This is not one of my favorites. It isn't really necessary to the series but it adds a sense of history to it. And, well, anything with de Warrenne and I am sold.

The Pursuit of Pleasure

The Pursuit of PleasureNever Say "Never" To Passion...

Lizzie Paxton's dream in life is to be a widow-if only she could skip the wedding and the husband. When her childhood friend Captain James Marlowe proposes a marriage in name only, she accepts, knowing she'll have the independence she craves once he sets sail. Though James is the only man Lizzie trusts, she doesn't trust the scintillating desire he evokes in her.

James knows he shouldn't get involved with anyone, especially with his uncertain future. But he just can't help himself when he overhears Lizzie's declaration. Though he's promised her a marriage of convenience, he wastes no time in seducing her and taking her over the precipice of desire. Yet not even his beautiful wife can deter him from his cause.

But when Lizzie discovers her husband has deceived her, James must choose between devotion to duty and loyalty to the woman he cannot live without...

The Pursuit of Pleasure by Elizabeth Essex- This is one of those tiresome novels where the hero and heroine could solve everything simply by trusting one another enough to tell them what the hell is going on. But where is the fun in that? Lizzie wants to be a widow- simply for the fact that it would give her the freedom she desires but couldn't get without marriage or with a husband to control her. Enter James Marlowe. Her childhood love. She agrees to the marriage of convenience to gain that which she most desires- freedom. Blah, blah, blah.. They marry and fall in love. Then he leaves to set sail on a voyage that could take months, years even.. She realizes she loves him... Then comes the drama.  Marlowe told Lizzie not to stay in the house he bought for her, she refuses. She wants to live there. This causes undue problems, simply by not giving her a better reason than "it's not safe."  There are too many things going on that trouble Lizzie, and she is too damn clever for her own good, her husband underestimates her and once again- they have issues. She is too headstrong to be believable. No one is that pig headed. She is aggravating beyond belief.  You love him, he loves you- deal with it. Stop being such a prig. The ending seems rushed and all together too easy and predictable. Soo predictable, I had been trying to figure out what could be going on as the ending it seemed was coming to was just to damn stupid and simple. Alas! It sucked it up, the ending was shit. The sex was passionate, lots of dirty words and descriptions.. The word fuck and it's derivatives are used profusely, as is my favorite "quim." Always good to throw that one in there. And it wasn't the typical bedroom sex, no fucking like a virgin for Lizzie!Lots of sex in places that commonly seem to be left out in these novels. Like on a countertop.. This is definitely a book where I wanted to trade places with the heroine for their exchanges. Marlowe sounds delicious.
Well, in the end.. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. It wasn't the worst way to spend my time. However given the chance to read it again... I might pass. Once may have been enough.

Marry Me

Marry Me (Zebra Historical Romance)
 HER HEART WAS LOCKED AWAY
Rhyne Abbott is fierce, brave, and used to a life of isolation on her father's spread on the outskirts of Reidsville, Colorado. But when, overcome with sickness, she collapses, she knows she must return to town if she is to have any hope of recovery. Only there is no place for her but the new doctor's home, and he wants more than just to heal Rhyne. He wants her hand in marriage.
UNTIL ONE MAN FOUND THE KEY
Doctor Cole Monroe's hands are already more than full with his orphaned little sister to look after, and yet somehow he can't resist the magnetic pull of Rhyne's bewitching eyes—or her tempting kiss. But convincing her to trust him won't be easy. For Rhyne's heart needs as much tender care as her ailing body. And the only cure is the thing she most fears: to let herself fall in love.

Marry Me (Zebra Historical Romance) by Jo Goodman- Again, I start in the middle of a series. However! This time, the back story isn't really needed. I'm sure anyone who had read the first story would love having a glimpse into Rachel and Wyatt's HEA, but again nothing is lost by not having read their story. The story is set in 1880's Colorado. Cole is a doctor, unhappy in New York for his research in medicine isn't appreciated or even regarded. Due to the well meaning mischief of his younger sister and ward, Whitley, Cole takes a position halfway across the country. Moving from well known, affluent doctor in NY to small town, fix it all doctor. Ryhne is a bit of a paradox. Raised as a boy, she struggles coming to terms with her own and everyone else's realization that she is in fact a woman. Rhyne comes to love Cole and his younger sister, but due to her past doesnt think she is good enough for them. Also in the mix is Rhyne's bastard of a father who thrives in misery and despises his daughter more than anything. The outcome is obvious, Rhyne and Cole fall in love, but getting there is all the fun.
This is a great story. In fact, I loved it. The characters are well thought out and you begin to care for them and want things to just hurry up and be easy so they can be happy. The only character I didn't really care for was Whitley. Although they mention that she is spacey, and seems thoughtless and carefree to me she just seemed stupid. Well, she is stupid or the author doesn't know how 16 year old girls act or speak or think. There are some touchy subjects.  There is abuse, neglect, rape and murder abound. Some of these details  aren't brought into the story until after you already have developed a connection with the characters, making them that much more awful. Personally, I wanted to climb into the book and strangle Judah to death myself, since no one else seemed to want to. There is romance, and sex. The romance is carefully forged after friendship, the sex, well, it isn't the passionate stuff. It is the sweet, awww kinda sex. Not bad, but not the nail biting, turn the page as fast as you can stuff either.
Overall, this book is a keeper. Having only the digital copy, I think I may need to invest in a paperback version for my bookcase.

American Vampire

American Vampire
Avaliable for pre-order. Out 2/11/11
HE'S THE GOOD KIND OF VAMPIRE. SORT OF.
Buried in the Heartland is a town that no one enters or leaves. Graf McDonald somehow becomes its first visitor in more than five years…and he was only looking for a good party. Unfortunately, Penance, Ohio, is not that place. And after having been isolated for so long, they do not like strangers at all.
Jessa's the only one to even remotely trust him, and she's desperate for the kind of protection that only a vampire like Graf can provide. Supplies are low, the locals are ornery for a sacrifice and there's a monster more powerful than Graf lurking in the woods. New men are hard to come by in this lonesome town, and this handsome stranger might be Jessa's only hope for salvation.
Even if she has to die first…

American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout. Graf is a vampire. And an asshole. While driving to a party he gets sucked into and trapped in a town that ceases to exist to the outside world. Everyone has been stuck inside this farm town for 5 years. Enter Jessa. Town whore, fallen woman with a grudge the size of Texas against any and everyone.  After she and Graf narrowly escape the town monster, affectionately referred to as "It," they head back to her place where she stashes him in the basement. Still not knowing he is a vampire. It is lurking the town, killing people and destroying property. What to do, what to do?  The answer? Fall in love with a vampire while being pursued by this unknown, seemingly unstoppable monster while trying to figure out why the town is stuck in a non-existent to the outside world state. Brilliant plan!
What can I say? This is one of those books I finished, just because I had to see if the author could redeem herself. Let me tell you- she doesn't. With every page I wondered, why am I still reading this crap, WTF am I doing? This book is terrible! The love story is hardly believable, it is hard to have any kind of feeling for any character. The sex is mediocre, the writing- not bad. The issue seems to be the story, But having never read anything else by this author, I can't say if it is  just this single story or her writing that is to blame. After reading this, I would rather not try to choke down anything else.

Rebel: The Blades of the Rose

Rebel (The Blades of the Rose)
Currently $4.30 on Kindle, $6.99 Paperback

"On the Canadian frontier in 1875, nature is a harsh mistress. But the supernatural can really do you in. . .

A Lone Wolf
Nathan Lesperance is used to being different. He's the first Native attorney in Vancouver, and welcome neither with white society nor his sometime tribe. Not to mention the powerful wildness he's always felt inside him, too dangerous to set free. Then he met Astrid Bramfield and saw his like within her piercing eyes. Now, unless she helps him through the harsh terrain and the harsher unknowns of his true abilities, it could very well get him killed. .
And The Woman Who Left The Pack
Astrid has traveled this path before. Once she was a Blade of the Rose, protecting the world's magic from unscrupulous men, with her husband by her side. But she's loved and lost, and as a world-class frontierswoman, she knows all about survival. Nathan's searing gaze and long, lean muscles mean nothing but trouble. Yet something has ignited a forgotten flame inside her: a burning need for adventure, for life--and perhaps even for love. . ."

"Rebel" by Zoe Archer is the third book in the Blades of the Rose series. Yes, I started this series in the middle. Yes, it did make things a little bit confusing, but things were explained fairly well. In this installment Astrid, a former Blade, fled to Canada after the death of her husband at the hands of the Blades enemies- The Heirs of Albion. She has become a mountain woman, living on her own in the wilderness trying to forget what she was, hoping to eventually whittle away into nothing until she ceases to exist- just like her husband. Nathan is a Native with a something to prove. He is an outsider not fitting in with his own people since he was raised as a white man and not fitting in with the whites for regardless of how he was raised he is still nothing but a redskin to them. Pushing past everything Nathan becomes a lawyer suppressing all the emotions inside that are dying to be let free, to run wild.

They meet, he falls hard and fast. She resists but quickly realizes she is no match for him. Adventure ensues. Good triumphs over evil, they all live to fight another day. It sounds worn out, but Archer really did a good job putting a new spin on the same story. The action is well thought out, the plot holes are few and far between. The only issue is the magic. The magic in the story isn't really ever explained throughly so at times things seem a little odd.. But it doesn't really take away from the story.

The characters while very likable are at times tiresome. You are running for you life, but quick! Let's stop and have wild animalistic sex- just because we can! Who cares that there are people hot on our trail wanting to kill us? Pshaw! That would never stop me either! The scenes are good, not too graphic, very lusty and possessive. Although, there was frontier oral, and that is just gross. Seriously, you have been running around, climbing mountains, hiking and god knows what else. No quick sponge bath is going to fix the hot mess she would have down below. Gross. Overall, I liked this book. It is definitely a series I would look into reading the others. (This book neatly segues into the next)

here goes nothing,,,

I like to read. Always have. Some people say I read too much, I say there is no such thing. I average a book or two a day,  Why am I writing this? Why should you care? Well, I don't know. I don't actually care if you care. It is something I am finding to be quite amusing. Hell, at this point I don't even have an audience to blog for. Just doing it for shits and giggles. I'm not afraid to tell you that yes, there is graphic sex in the book, yes I liked, it was hot and you probably will too. That the main character is a dickhead, or the book just flat out sucked- let me tell you, I have read quite a few books where I just cannot believed they got published! Anything today with the words vampire or werewolf is bound to get published and it doesn't mean it is good reading. I read just about any genre, but romance and erotica are my guilty pleasure.
For the most part most of my books are being read on the Kindle 3. I love it. LOVE IT. I love Amazon. I love their customer service, everything. I will tell you about the formatting, because some are not formatted well and it will drive you batty.

Well, here goes...
