Buried in the Heartland is a town that no one enters or leaves. Graf McDonald somehow becomes its first visitor in more than five years…and he was only looking for a good party. Unfortunately, Penance, Ohio, is not that place. And after having been isolated for so long, they do not like strangers at all.
Jessa's the only one to even remotely trust him, and she's desperate for the kind of protection that only a vampire like Graf can provide. Supplies are low, the locals are ornery for a sacrifice and there's a monster more powerful than Graf lurking in the woods. New men are hard to come by in this lonesome town, and this handsome stranger might be Jessa's only hope for salvation.
Even if she has to die first… American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout. Graf is a vampire. And an asshole. While driving to a party he gets sucked into and trapped in a town that ceases to exist to the outside world. Everyone has been stuck inside this farm town for 5 years. Enter Jessa. Town whore, fallen woman with a grudge the size of Texas against any and everyone. After she and Graf narrowly escape the town monster, affectionately referred to as "It," they head back to her place where she stashes him in the basement. Still not knowing he is a vampire. It is lurking the town, killing people and destroying property. What to do, what to do? The answer? Fall in love with a vampire while being pursued by this unknown, seemingly unstoppable monster while trying to figure out why the town is stuck in a non-existent to the outside world state. Brilliant plan!
What can I say? This is one of those books I finished, just because I had to see if the author could redeem herself. Let me tell you- she doesn't. With every page I wondered, why am I still reading this crap, WTF am I doing? This book is terrible! The love story is hardly believable, it is hard to have any kind of feeling for any character. The sex is mediocre, the writing- not bad. The issue seems to be the story, But having never read anything else by this author, I can't say if it is just this single story or her writing that is to blame. After reading this, I would rather not try to choke down anything else.
